Based in Samois since 2012, I actually opened my first studio in the UK in 2009 after training at the University of Creative Arts in Farnham. I now am lucky to have a lovely work space where I enjoy designing and making, in the heart of a village nesting between forest and river, an hour south of Paris.
I prefer making using the potter's wheel but I also hand build with slabs of clay especially when making my beloved ceramic houses.
Drawn to developing functional and unique ceramic pieces, I am guided in part by the idea and pleasure of creating beautiful objects for use in our daily lives. I also create a line of decorative pieces in connection to the house. My creations encourage people to reach out and feel their crafted surfaces, either soft, covered with smooth glazes or decisively rough.
The work around the theme of the house reflects both the sense of connection we feel for our home and land, but also our curiosity for unknown places and countries. A house is a place that is dear to all and each individual will transform and adapt the space to claim ownership, to make it ‘hygge’, as described so accurately by the Scandinavians. The home is a reflection of the self.
